I‘ve said before that I’m not going to discuss politics in any depth on this blog, but I don’t think it’ll hurt to link to a bit of political satire from “The Onion.” The background for this particular article is that that “The Onion” was sold to China last week by its publisher, T. Herman Zweibel.

Toddler Chokes To Death On Plastic Taiwanese-Made Toy

You may or may not think it’s funny depending on how your political leanings slant, but I just think it’s hilarious that a mainstream (well, in the sense that it has a large readership) U.S. humor publication had chosen to turn its eye on cross-strait relations over here.

(A couple of things were fudged a bit for the sake of satire… for example, Taiwan is not called “Chinese Taipei” by China… that’s a “compromise” name that was thought up for international sporting events and so forth. It’s referred to by the Chinese government as “Taiwan, Province of China.” And the Chinese government doesn’t actually seem to think that Ma Ying-jeou is evil.)
