Merry Christmas! 聖誕節快樂! Ron and I celebrated in style by going to an all-you-can-eat buffet at the Howard Plaza Hotel (福華大飯店). While we were tucking into roast beef, I remembered our last big trough feed at La Rotisserie in the Palais de Chine (君品酒店) near Taipei Main Station. It has a ridiculously opulent interior filled with antiques, heavy wood furniture and plush banquettes. At our anniversary lunch, we sat next to a middle-aged couple. They spent their entire meal gathering and then silently munching through plates of food, like they were grimly determined to get their money’s worth. After finishing dessert, the man wordlessly picked up a cushion, nestled it behind his head and went to sleep. He was still snoring away when we left and his wife was nowhere to be seen.
I think that is the perfect approach to a buffet. That, and some Tupperware hidden away in a tote bag. I’m kidding. Happy holidays!
