Sometimes Taipei manages to be beautiful in the winter despite itself. It’s just a matter of keeping your eye out. For example, I noticed a row of trees with pink blossoms in Xinyi District near the Eslite building. Their branches were mostly bare, but there were a lot of people with their smartphones outstretched in their hands, taking snapshots of the one colorful thing on a mostly grey day. I thought they made a beautiful contrast with Taipei 101.

Sometimes the sun will return for a brief cameo appearance, and then I run out and try to soak up as much vitamin D as possible before it slowly inches down into the horizon and says good-bye again.
